Ruins of 1200-1400-year-old defense walls upon the Linnavuori hill of Kauttua, Eura, Finland. The barrier structures (apparently a small castle of sorts made partly from wood stood there) worked as the last resort in the Viking-age Eura if the land was attacked. Picture from September.

The hill is one of the highest places in Kauttua, but there's an almost similar kind of hill very near, to the east toward Harola. I climbed upon it a few weeks ago, and oddly enough some of the rock formations there looked man-made, as if that hill might've once contained defense walls also. Wouldn't be impossible, since about half a kilometer to the south there are some newly unearthed archeological sites that have odd stone rings from the bronze age.

(Don't worry, I'm not going to post a hundred pics of mossy rocks into my gallery. Just sorting out through some of the better pics taken during my hiking trips.)

That's a lovely photo and I enjoyed reading the history behind it. Do you have anymore photos like this one that have a history behind it?

:( The colours are looking a bit washed out in the sunlight, especially in the background. Too bad... I'm sure they're as vibrant in real life as those other pics were.

Öf, how is it now? I upped the contrast and the green channel.
You may need to press refresh, the old pic may be still in DA's cache.
Well, practically all the photos I've uploaded within a week or so. :) I still got a humongous heap of them to sort through (thanks to an overlarge memory card and the urge to photograph every single rock from at least nine angles...), and I'm probably going hiking on some equivalent archaeological sites this weekend also if the weather remains good. I have plans to build a website of sorts about the ruins and barrows I've photographed, but I don't know when I have time for that.
Looking better... Still can't see some of the background trees for the glare, but that can't be helped, with the angle the light's coming from in this. ^^;

That looks like a gorgeous spot. The scenery up there looks so lush and verdent. Must have made for quite a lovely hike.

Thanks!
Yeah, that one was a nice trip. We got sort of lost quite a few times, though, what with having no proper map. But it was the first try, now we're better prepared.
I'm afraid I can't post-process this photo any better any more. This was anyway from our first hiking trip, so I didn't have yet that much experience with nature photographing. But I try to keep finding better angles in the future. :)
