Description

This is a work-in-progress headpiece.

This garment may pose a time anomaly. I originally looked at images of some Viking-age runestones and read Hägg's interpretation concerning certain grave goods excavated in Hedeby. The previous featured men with trailing tails attached to their headgear, and the latter seemed to confirm that liripipe hoods were already in use during this period. So I started crafting this and only later discovered the common opinion: the model came into fashion in the 14th century.

So have a gugel with Viking-age decorations.

I've been asked several times whether the embroidery is machine-made. It's not. The process is illustrated briefly above.

-First a model is sketched on plain paper (c. 15 min) and an approximate outline is cut
-The paper is pinned upon a strip of silk, and the outline is drawn lightly with pencil thereon. The more detailed parts are added later and usually vary from the original design
-The embroidering can start (sloooow...)

The decorations are inspired by Viking-age stylistic elements, but aren't exact copies of anything.
